Pout Pond Ecological Restoration Project
The State of Massachusetts has given the Webster Lake Association a grant to remove non-native and nuisance vegetation from Pout Pond. The vegetation removal would be done with mechanical hydro-raking only. Herbicide treatment would be used in future maintenance. The Benefits of this project include controlling non-native and nuisance vegetation, improve fish habitat, improve water quality and slow pond eutrophication. Eutrophication is a process that occurs when a body of water receives too many nutrients, which causes excessive growth of algae and plants.
A meeting with the D.E.P. is scheduled for February, updates will be posted.
